Durant’s remarks draw ire as fans point out the Suns' struggle for titles compared to the Chiefs.
Kevin Durant firmly believes the Phoenix Suns mirror the mentality of the Kansas City Chiefs rather than the Buffalo Bills. In a recent segment on “Up & Adams” with host Kay Adams, Durant was posed the question of which NFL team best represents the Suns, and he didn’t hesitate to name the Chiefs.
Durant explained that both teams share a fierce commitment to winning. “Imma say the [Kansas City] Chiefs, ’cause we bring that championship mentality every day, baby,” he said.
When Adams suggested the Suns might be more aligned with the Bills, Durant quickly dismissed the idea, standing firm in his preference for the Chiefs.
While Durant has yet to capture a championship with Phoenix, he remains optimistic that adopting a mentality akin to that of Kansas City will ultimately guide the Suns toward their championship aspirations.
“I don’t want to be one of those guys [Buffalo Bills],” Durant said. “So I’d rather go with the champs and just take on that mentality.”

Kevin Durant faces backlash for his Chiefs admission
Kevin Durant’s comparison of the Phoenix Suns to the Kansas City Chiefs didn’t sit well with users on X. Many comments reflected a belief that the Suns’ recent achievements pale in comparison to the success of the two-time defending Super Bowl champions.
The Phoenix Suns lack the same level of continuity as the Kansas City Chiefs, who are on the brink of a three-peat. Unlike the Chiefs, the Suns have never clinched an NBA championship, having made three Finals appearances—in 1976, 1993, and 2021—but they fell short each time.
However, Phoenix possesses the elite talent that has propelled Kansas City to dominance in the NFL over the past five years.
With stars like Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, and Bradley Beal on the roster, the question now is whether they can chart a championship course similar to that of Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Chris Jones. Only time will reveal the outcome.
