Joel Embiid injury update : no plans in playing back-to-back games for the rest of his career

Joel Embiid will probably never play back-to-back game for the rest of his career

Since the start of his career, Joel Embiid has a long history of injury preventing him to probably reach his full potential.

Ruled out for the rest of the pre-season because of a knee injury, Joel Embiid will probably be sidelined in back-to-back game this season.

“If I had to guess,” Embiid said via ESPN’s Tim Bontemps, “I would probably never play back-to-backs the rest of my career.”

In total, Joel Embiid has only played in 433 of a possible 637 games since getting drafted in 2014 by the 76ers.

Joel Embiid history of injuries

Joel Embiid’s NBA career has been heavily impacted by a string of injuries since he was drafted in 2014.

His injury troubles began before he even set foot on an NBA court. He suffered a stress fracture in his right foot, which required surgery and led him to miss his first two professional seasons entirely.

Unfortunately, his recovery from this foot injury was prolonged by a setback in 2015, further delaying his debut with the Philadelphia 76ers.

In 2017, after showing great promise in his delayed rookie season, Embiid faced another major injury: a meniscus tear in his left knee that required surgery, limiting him to just 31 games.

This knee issue has been a recurring theme, with additional injuries and soreness leading to missed games throughout his career.

Despite these setbacks, Embiid has managed to achieve MVP-caliber seasons, though not without further interruptions.

In 2021, he played through a small meniscus tear in his right knee during the playoffs, showcasing his determination despite the risks involved.

Embiid’s injuries haven’t been limited to his lower body. He suffered a fractured left orbital bone in 2018, leading him to wear a protective mask, and in 2020, a torn ligament in his left hand required surgery. Other injuries, such as shoulder strains, knee soreness, and back tightness, have kept him out of games intermittently.

When will Joel Embiid play again for the 76ers ?

As being sidelined for the rest of the pre-season as a precautionary move, we can expect Embiid to play in regular season debut against the Milwaukee Bucks on October 23rd.

This would also mark Paul George‘s first game with the 76ers since signing his 4 year contract with the team during the summer.
