Jalen Williams Signs Five-Year Maximum Rookie Contract Extension Worth Up to $287 Million with OKC Thunder

The OKC Thunder have now officially locked in their ‘Big 3’ for the rest of the decade.

Oklahoma City Thunder star Jalen Williams has signed a five-year maximum rookie contract extension worth up to $287 million. The development came a day after Chet Holmgren signed a rookie extension worth up to $240 million. Williams, the first-time All-Star and NBA Champion, is coming off a memorable season in which he averaged 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game he played for the Thunder.

Williams was also named to the All-NBA Third Team and was on the All-Defensive Second Team. During his team’s run to the 2025 title, the 24-year-old dropped 21.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.8 assists as well as 1.4 steals per game while shooting 44.9% overall and 30.4% from behind the arc. In Game 7 of the NBA Finals, he dropped 20 points, four rebounds, and four assists, ultimately helping the Thunder take down the Indiana Pacers 103-91 and secure a championship.

OKC Thunder Now Have Their Big 3 of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren

After the OKC Thunder became the second-youngest team in NBA history to claim a title, they have now officially locked in their ‘Big 3’ for the rest of the decade. The extensions signed by Gilgeous-Alexander, Williams and Holmgren with the Thunder cost as much as $822 million. While the 2025 NBA MVP Gilgeous-Alexander has been a headliner, players such as Holmgren and Williams have also played key roles.

All the core members of the 2025 title team are under contract for next season and none of them will enter free agency until the summer of 2027. In the postseason in 2024-25, Williams suffered a tear of the scapholunate ligament in his right wrist, but played through it. Apart from becoming the third-youngest player in 50 years to score 40 points in NBA Finals Game 5, he displayed elite defense.
