Is Nico Harrison’s Job in Jeopardy? Reports of Dallas Mavericks GM on Edge of Losing Job Surface Amid Poor Start

Garima Ranawat

The Mavericks have dropped to 2-7 in the ongoing season.

Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison might be on the verge of losing his job. According to NBA insider Tim MacMahon, pressure has been building over Harrison’s position in the Mavericks’ front office after the franchise got off to a disastrous 2-7 start to the 2025-26 season. Notably, Harrison has been in the bad books of several Mavericks fans ever since he traded away their generational star Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Anthony Davis.

Amid their ongoing slump, questions have been raised about Harrison’s decision making and leadership skills. MacMahon addressed the growing tension in the franchise’s front office. He said that doubts have started to loom around Harrison’s future with them. “I don’t have a firm answer for you right now, but it is absolutely a legitimate question,” MacMahon said on Howdy Partners podcast. “When you talk to people around the league about the Mavericks, it’s the first question that people are asking.”

Dallas Mavericks’ Concerning Form in 2025-26 Season

Once known as an offensive powerhouse, the Mavs are currently 2-7 in the league, sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference standings. The team has displayed a lack of shot creation and floor spacing in the ongoing season. Despite drafting first overall pick Cooper Flagg, the Mavs haven’t been able to do well. They might compete for another first pick by the end of the season. Flagg has shown flashes and has been averaging 14.1 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. However, the franchise has been expecting him to shoulder more responsibility far earlier than expected.

Apart from him, D’Angelo Russell has been inconsistent and is averaging 12.6 points while shooting 38.9%. In addition to poor form, injuries continue to be a major concern for the Mavericks. Anthony Davis, who Harrsion brought in exchange of Doncic, has already missed four out of nine games with a calf injury, while Kyrie Irving along with Dereck Lively II remain out.

Apart from it,  they have shown poor form in terms of offense. They rank 29th in three-point percentage at 30.7% and have been able to score over 110 points just once this season. Needless to say, the team is in dire need of improving its result, and if that doesn’t happen soon, we might see Harrison leaving them.
