Howden's OT Goal Secures 4-3 Win for Golden Knights Over Utah
Brett Howden faked Alexander Kerfoot, moved towards the net, and scored in overtime at 2:15 to help the Vegas Golden Knights remain undefeated at home with a 4-3 win against the Utah Hockey Club on Saturday night.
Noah Hanifin scored one goal and added two assists for the Golden Knights, while Howden contributed with one assist. Adin Hill made 16 saves, while Pavel Dorofeyev and William Karlsson also found the back of the net for Vegas.
Logan Cooley scored a goal and assisted Utah, who also received goals from Ian Cole and Kerfoot. Nick Bjugstad provided two assists while Connor Ingram recorded 31 saves. The Golden Knights came back with three straight goals down 2-0 with only eight minutes left in the second period. Karlsson gave them the lead with a goal on a breakaway at 5:37 of the third period.
Kerfoot equalized the score with 6:50 remaining by capitalizing on a puck that ricocheted off a player from Vegas and ended up in front of an empty net.
The Golden Knights continued their exceptional start at home with a record of 8-0, having outscored opponents by a margin of 43-19.
Utah didn’t register a shot on goal until there was 8:08 left in the first period, when Cooley scored from the left circle. The team’s additional two goals were deflected by Vegas players.
The Golden Knights have a record of 0-3-1 in games played outside Las Vegas and will be away from home for nine of their next 11 matches. As the clock was ticking down, it appeared that Utah was on track to go into the second intermission with a 2-1 lead.
However, Hanifin managed to score off a loose puck in the final second to tie the game. On Tuesday, Utah will be in Winnipeg and the following day the Golden Knights will be in Edmonton.
