San Antonio Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan is set to undergo surgery to repair a fractured left thumb, an injury he sustained during a game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Sochan suffered a fracture in the proximal phalanx of his thumb which requires surgery. It is expected that Sochan will be sidelined for an extended period.

Sochan, who has been averaging a career-high 15.4 points 7.7 rebounds, and 3 assists per game this season, was injured when he ran into a screen near the Clippers bench in the second quarter. The Spurs have stated that they will update his status following the surgery.
The loss of Sochan is a significant blow to the Spurs, who are already dealing with other injuries and the absence of head coach Gregg Popovich due to health concerns.

While Spurs have yet to provide an official timeline for his return, the recovery from a proximal phalanx thumb fracture typically takes about 3 to 6 weeks for the bone to heal. However, it can take up to 12 weeks before a player can return to contact sports to avoid the risk of re-injury.
The San Antonio Spurs have been inconsistent at the start of the season, winning just three games out of seven. Victor Wembanyama has been on and off this season, with Devin Vassell and Tre Jones still out. With Jeremy Sochan sidelined and head coach Gregg Popovich unavailable, the Spurs face a challenging task ahead.
The Spurs will next face in-form Houston Rockets on Wednesday at Toyota Center.
