Heat, Clippers, Jazz Agree to Blockbuster Three-Way Trade Involving John Collins, Norman Powell and Kevin Love

The Clippers and Heat were involved in a surprising trade on Monday morning. In addition to Los Angeles and Miami, the Utah Jazz also participated in the negotiation. Thus, point guard Norman Powell leaves LA and heads to the Heat. Meanwhile, center John Collins leaves Utah for the Clippers. What this three-way trade means for each side?

Norman Powell will bolster Miami Heat perimeter after career-best year. The 32-year-old is coming off his best season in the NBA and has established himself as a crucial offensive piece for the Los Angeles Clippers. Averaging 21.8 points, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game in 2024-25, the forward posted the best scoring performance of his career, shooting 48.4 percent from the field.

Despite this, the franchise understood that this was the best time to trade him, taking advantage of his high market value. His current salary is $20.5 million. According to ESPN, he is eligible to sign a three-year extension worth $80.6 million by January. It is also believed that the Heat will seek exactly that with the player, if he maintains his production. In principle, he arrives to be an absolute starter in the shooting guard spot for Erik Spoelstra’s team.

John Collins, on the other side, adds space and creativity to the Clippers’ paint. The 27-year-old has had a solid performance for the Utah Jazz, averaging 19 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2 assists while shooting 52.7 percent from the field. He enters the final season of his contract with a salary of $26.6 million and could test the market as an unrestricted free agent in 2026. A creative offensive power forward, he brings good spacing to the Clippers’ paint, contrasting with Ivica Zubac’s more ‘classic’ style. Should he opt for an extension with his new team, he is eligible for a three-year deal worth $100.5 million.

Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz can use Kevin Love and Kyle Anderson for future trade. Kevin Love, 36, is about to enter his 18th NBA season. Playing for the Miami Heat since 2022, the experienced power forward had a reduced role in 2024-25, averaging 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds in just 23 games. Now, he arrives at the Jazz with his winning resume and leadership skills, although he seems destined for a secondary role on the franchise’s young roster.

Similarly, Kyle Anderson also brings a versatile veteran presence to Utah. After stints with the Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors, he averaged discreet 5.9 points and 3.4 rebounds in 61 games. Anderson is under contract for the next two seasons, with salaries of $9.2 million and $9.7 million, and could be a useful piece in the rotation for teams looking for depth on the roster.

Therefore, he, like Love, could also be a future trade piece at the 2025-26 trade deadline if the Jazz live up to expectations and don’t fight for a playoff spot.
