“He hates them as much as I do” – 76ers’ Joel Embiid gives hilarious take on ‘Celtics-Killer’ Caleb Martin

Caleb Martin notched up a career-high 7 three-pointers to help Sixers to win against Celtics on Christmas Day.

Caleb Martin has been a top-performer for the 76ers during his short stint and produced a top-show on the NBA Christmas Day in a 118-114 win over the Boston Celtics. The 29-year-old notched up 23 points with a career-high 7 three-pointers to help 76ers secure a first win in Boston since 2021.

While speaking to reporters postgame, Joel Embiid, who led the victory with the final two free-throws, admired Caleb Martin for a match-winning performance. He also talked about Martin’s hate-affair with Boston as the young forward has impressive numbers against the Celtics. “He’s playing against Boston. He hates them as much as I do,” Embiid said.

Joel Embiid has also given him a new nickname – the “Boston Killer” which reflects his hate for the NBA Champions. The NBA All-Star was questionable before the game but entered the era and stoke the show. Embiid scored 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds. His free throw shooting was pure and clutch which helped 76ers to improve in the West.

Caleb Martin lived up to his “Boston Killer” persona

Caleb Martin, who hit 7-of-9 from 3-point range today, is establishing himself as the fourth option behind the All-Star trio of Philadelphia. Martin had 18 makes from beyond the arc before the game but this game was all about his class and he lived up to his “Boston Killer” persona.

Caleb Martin averaged 19.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game during the 2023 Eastern Conference Finals against Boston Celtics. He helped his former team, Miami Heat to win the series 4-3.

“I like it when he’s not thinking about it and tonight, he was just not thinking about it every single time he had the ball, shoot or drive. Obviously, he made his shots. We need him to keep doing that and keep building that confidence,” Embiid added.

Adding to the previous context, Joel Embiid added fuel to his hate for Boston. “I can’t stand them, I hate Boston,” JoJo replied to Ky Carlin when the 30-year-old star was asked if he was watching the 2024 NBA Finals.

Tyrese Maxey contributed 33 points, including 13 in the final quarter to seal the game for 76ers on Christmas Day. Nick Nurse’ side has picked up a momentum following a disappointing run in November. Jayson Tatum paced the Celtics with 32 points and 15 rebounds. Jaylen Brown chipped in 23 points and Derrick White had 21.
