Anthony Edwards’ surge in popularity is not only visible among NBA fan bases but also among the former players and all the pundits of the game. Everyone is talking about the 23-year-old who has taken over the playoffs with his talent. Edwards took the Minnesota Timberwolves on his shoulders and knocked out the highly favorite Los Angeles Lakers.

Though, the Twolves star posted 5-19 in terms of Field Goals and scored only 15 points in the game 5. But his lukewarm performance was overshadowed by his presence. The power forward was there everywhere on the court trying to block LeBron James and get under the skin of Luka Doncic.

NBA Analyst Kendrick Perkins believes that the Lakers. Timberwolves series has proven that Anthony Edwards could be the leading figure to be the face of the league. The former OKC Thunder player heaped praise on the star for his surge this season.

Kendrick Perkins said, “(Ant) said he doesn’t want to be the face of the league, but he might not have a choice. He is a straight killer, taking down all giants from Jokic, KD and now LeBron and Luka. And now possibly he’s going to face Steph Curry in the next round.”

While talking about the kind of impact Anthony has had, Perkins revealed, “I said before, he’s every former player’s favourite player. Even though he went 5 from 19 from the field he still helped them win the game. The tenacity, the defense, him giving people confidence. He’s all that.”

Kendrick Perkins predicted Anthony Edwards’ rise

ESPN’s NBA Analyst Perkins has made another accurate prediction that has come true years later. Before the start of the 2023-24 season, Kendrick Perkins predicted that Ant man may be the face of the league in the future.

This was right after Anthony Edwards erupted for the US basketball team against Germany in a warmup game for the World Cup. Not only Kendrick Perkins but other popular personalities like Jayson Tatum, Brian Windhorst, Kurt Helin, Alex Kennedy heaped praises on the youngster.

Anthony Edwards is possibly nearing that phase where he’s at the pinnacle of the league individually. With veterans like LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant nearing their end of careers, it could be Edwards who might actually become the face of the league.
