Golden State Warriors and restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga remain in negotiations, with training camp only weeks away. A resolution is expected soon, but both sides are still searching for common ground.

Jonathan Kuminga has until October 1 to decide on the $7.9 million qualifying offer, which would keep him in Golden State for one more season before hitting unrestricted free agency next summer. To avoid that scenario, the Warriors have increased their proposal.

Joe Lacob flew to Miami last month to meet with Jonathan Kuminga and discuss his future, per @ShamsCharania.

After offering a two-year, $45 million deal with a team option, Golden State has now put forward a three-year, $75.2 million offer that includes a team option in the final season. The $25 million annual average value is closer to Kuminga’s original demand of around $30 million per year.

The offer also mirrors recent deals around the league, including Josh Giddey’s agreement with the Chicago Bulls last week. Still, Golden State appears to view the deal as both a commitment and potential trade flexibility for the future.

Jonathan Kuminga Stance in Talks

For Kuminga, the negotiations are about more than salary. Two key factors have guided his approach, that he does not want to be treated as trade leverage, and he wants a consistent on-court role.

Throughout his time with the Golden State Warriors, Jonathan Kuminga has often voiced concern about limited opportunities in the rotation. His camp remains cautious about signing a long-term deal that does not address those issues.

Deadline Approaching Fast

Talks will continue in the coming weeks, with both sides aware the October 1 deadline is closing in. If no deal is reached, Jonathan Kuminga could accept the qualifying offer, play out the season, and test the market as an unrestricted NBA free agent in 2026.

For now, Golden State has shown its intent to keep Kuminga in the fold. The next step depends on whether the forward believes the Warriors can provide the role and stability he is seeking.
