The Los Angeles Lakers’ injury situation went from concerning to alarming after guard Gabe Vincent became the latest casualty. An MRI confirmed on Monday that Vincent will miss between two to four weeks with a sprained left ankle, compounding the team’s already long list of unavailable players.
Gabe Vincent suffered the injury early in the third quarter of Sunday’s 127–120 win over the Sacramento Kings. Though X-rays came back negative, he left the arena in a walking boot. By Monday, he was seen arriving at Crypto.com Arena on crutches, ruled out for the home game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The 29-year-old guard had started the Lakers’ first three games, stepping into the lineup as LeBron James continues to recover from sciatica affecting his lower back and right side. Gabe Vincent had earned his starting role after an impressive preseason, averaging 16.3 points on 47.4% shooting and a sharp 55.6% from beyond the arc.
With Vincent now out, that offensive spark disappears for several weeks. The Lakers’ depth, already stretched thin, faces further strain. Coach JJ Redick must now navigate through another lineup adjustment, the third in just four games.
Beyond Gabe Vincent and King James, the Lakers are also without several key players. Marcus Smart missed Monday’s contest with a right quad contusion, Luka Doncic sat his second straight game due to finger and leg issues, and Jaxson Hayes remains sidelined with knee soreness. Maxi Kleber and rookie Adou Thiero are still unavailable due to lingering injuries.
That left Los Angeles with only seven full-time players available, plus three two-way contracts. The lack of continuity has made it difficult for the Lakers to build chemistry or consistency on either end of the floor.
Austin Reaves continues to carry the offensive load. After his 51-point explosion in Sacramento, Reaves followed up with 41 points, five assists, and four rebounds on Monday. Despite his effort, the Lakers fell 122–108 to Portland.
Redick emphasized before the game that the team must rely on collective energy rather than individual brilliance. But with the injuries mounting, even standout performances may not be enough to hold the line much longer.
