“Every time I Hear a Top 5 All-Time Guards List”- DeMarcus Cousins’ Old Remark About Chris Paul Resurfaces Ahead of 2025-26 NBA Season

Garima Ranawat

Paul has reunited with the Los Angeles Clippers ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season.

Former Sacramento Kings star DeMarcus Cousins has kind of stayed in the limelight due to a pattern of controversial remarks and behavior. Apart from his competitive nature on the court and history of technical fouls as well as ejections, he has time and again made headlines with his disputed remarks on fellow players. A few years ago, he took a sharp jibe at star guard Chris Paul about his presence among the league’s top guards, which has resurfaced as the NBA gears up for the 2025-26 season.

Cousins had appeared in one of the episodes of Buckets’ Outta Pocket podcast and presented strong views on Paul. Sparking debate about top-five point guards himself, he was asked if there is someone who he thinks doesn’t fit in the list. The four-time NBA All-Star didn’t hold himself back and quickly named Chris Paul. He said, “It’s Chris Paul. Every time I see a top-five PG’s list, Chris Paul is in it and I’m not understanding why.”

Cousins’ remarks have resurfaced as teams are preparing for the start of the training camp considering the new season is a little over a month away. Paul will once again be a part of the Los Angeles Clippers for the new season after being signed in free agency. The 40-year-old, who is in the final stages of his NBA career, has not been able to win a championship. However, the wait may finally be over this season as the Clippers have upgraded their rotation around James Harden, Kawhi Leonard and Ivica Zubac by making a few free agency moves.

Not the First Time Cousins Threw Shade on Chris Paul

It wasn’t the first time that Cousins took a jibe at CP3! Even before it, the 25-year-old had made it quite clear with his remarks that he didn’t like Paul. In 2023, when the 12-time NBA All-Star was traded to the Golden State Warriors from the Phoenix Suns, Cousins questioned the Dubs’ choice. said, “I gotta be honest, I didn’t understand the Chris Paul trade.”

Further adding, the Alabama-born added, “Then I looked at it like maybe they want to free up the books for next season. But as far as it being about basketball and Xs and Os on the court, I don’t really see that elevating the Golden State Warriors. He’s up in age.”

Coming back to his latest remarks about CP3, the Clippers star is certainly on his way to the Hall of Fame with a decorated resume consisting of 12 All-Star appearances. Apart from it, he has been a four-time All-NBA First Team member, a five-time All-NBA Second Team member as well as earned All-Star Game MVP honors in 2013.

This is not it! Paul also ranks second all-time in steals and assists and is regarded as one of the best point guards in current times. Of course, he hasn’t been able to add a ring to his otherwise illustrated 20-year-long career, but apart from it, there is no doubt that he is considered as one of the greatest point guards in the history of the league.
