DeMar DeRozan Makes NBA History, Sets Sights on Stephen Curry

The Playoffs News Team

DeMar DeRozan completed a major milestone on Thursday.

Despite loss against Chicago Bulls on Thursday night, Sacramento Kings’ DeMar DeRozan delivered a strong performance, recording 22 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 assists. With this achievement, the former Bulls star became the 27th player in NBA history to surpass the 25,000 career points milestone.

A prolific scorer, the six-time All-Star boasts a career average of 21.3 points per game, with two standout seasons exceeding 27 points per game in 2016-17 (Toronto) and 2021-22 (Chicago). Every team he has played for – Raptors, Spurs, Bulls, and Kings – has felt the impact of his elite offensive skills. However, despite his scoring prowess, the ninth overall pick in the 2009 draft has never advanced beyond the Conference Finals, often facing roadblocks in the form of LeBron James during playoff runs.

DeRozan Eyes Stephen Curry’s Spot

With 25,005 career points, DeRozan now sets his sights on Stephen Curry (25,117) at 26th place and Jerry West (25,192) at 25th. Surpassing West appears well within reach, but overtaking Curry is less certain, as the Warriors star remains active and maintains a slight edge. The long-term outcome will largely depend on how much longer each player continues his career. At 35 years old, DeRozan has a slight age advantage over Curry, who is 37.

This season, DeRozan is averaging 22.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.1 assists, while Curry posts 24.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.1 assists. Among active players, only LeBron James, Kevin Durant, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and Curry have surpassed the 25,000-point mark. DeRozan’s milestone is particularly impressive given that he has largely relied on his signature mid-range jumper throughout his NBA career.
