Damian Lillard Injury Status: What Happened to Damian Lillard?

Akash

Damian Lillard was helped off the court in the Milwaukee Bucks vs Indiana Pacers game on Sunday. In what looked like a non-contact injury, the guard couldn’t continue with his left foot feeling the pressure. This is a massive blow for the Bucks, who are already trailing in the series.

The 6-foot-2 Weber State product was attempting to take a rebound from Gary Trent Jr. failed three. This occurred in the 7th minute of the first quarter. Damian Lillard couldn’t complete the rebound and caught his lower leg while going down. As the game continued with the Indiana Pacers’ possession, the Bucks were 4 against 5.

The guard continued to be down until the official called for a whistle. The 34-year-old was carried away with the help of the support staff and could barely keep his left leg on the floor. The matter couldn’t get worse, as the Bucks needed Lillard’s presence to complement Giannis Antetokounmpo on the court. Damian Lillard put up just 7 points and 5 assists in game three, but he was barely warming up after being out for a month.

Lillard suffered a right calf deep vein thrombosis which took him out of action in the last phase of the regular season. He marked his on court comeback just in the second game of this Playoffs series. The signs of his current injury are not good, with reports claiming the worst outcome.

Will Damian Lillard Be Sidelined for a Longer Period?

Reports are already flying around that Damian Lillard on Sunday night has suffered in what looks like an Achilles injury. NBA Insider Chris Haynes revealed that the Milwaukee Bucks star has suffered a left Achilles tear. If the reports come true, the 34-year-old could be looking at a long time off the court.

Achilles tear is one of the most devastating injuries in basketball where stars despite having a long term recovery never are the same. The injury takes off a lot from the one’s game. Kobe Bryant who suffered a simple injury in the 2013 playoffs had a steep decline from there in his basketball career. His speed and agility took a shot.

While Kevin Durant also had an Achilles injury in the 2019 NBA Finals with Golden State Warriors. He was out for the whole 2019-20 season after signing for the Brooklyn Nets. Durant’s recovery took a very long time, but he is slightly back to his old self. But Durant during the injury was 30 years old, while Damian Lillard will turn 35 in a couple of months. The road indeed looks tough for the Bucks star.
