The Dallas Mavericks were dealt a huge blow after their star guard, Luka Doncic, got injured during preseason practice. The team on Wednesday announced that Luka didn’t take part in Mavs second day of training camp in Las Vegas due to a left calf contusion.
The Mavericks confirmed that the 25-year-old suffered the injury during the workouts and will now be re-evaluated in one week.

Dončić will be re-evaluated as necessary in one week.
“He got hit in the calf. [Luka Doncic] reported it tight yesterday so they went and got an MRI. We’ll reevaluate him in a week and see where he stands”, head coach Jason Kidd said.
“There’s no concern at this point about his availability. We’ll see how he feels in a week”, the Mavericks coach added.
Notably, this is not the first time Luka Doncic has injured his calf. The five NBA All-Stars suffered a similar injury during last year’s preseason. But, he managed to recover on time for the season opener against the Spurs, where he stole the show with a 30-point triple-double.
Doncic played a big part in leading the Mavericks to the finals last season, scoring a league-high 33.9 points per game while shooting 48.7 percent from the field.
Despite Luka Doncic’s and Kyrie Irving’s magical partnership, the Mavericks fell short against the Boston Celtics in the NBA finals last season.
However, Irving believes that the addition of veteran shooting guard Klay Thompson to the team can help them to go all the way this season. Talking on media day, Irving said,
“I feel like our dreams can be possible because he’s here now.”
Thompson was a key member of the Golden State Warriors, which won four NBA titles in eight years. After struggling throughout the 2023-24 season, he became a free agent and joined the Mavs.
The Dallas Mavericks have hired former Suns coach Frank Vogel as a coaching consultant for the new season. Mavericks coach Jason Kidd confirmed the appointment, saying
“It took a lot of begging,” Kidd joked, “But he was talked into it and I’m happy he said yes.”
The Mavs will begin their preseason against the Memphis Grizzlies on October 7.
