The OKC Thunder capped a historic year by winning their first Larry O’Brien trophy, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander leading the charge. They are one of the closest teams to build a dynasty in the modern day NBA league. However, sustaining their success depends on maintaining roster stability and front-office leadership moving forward.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren form the core on the court. Off the court, General Manager Sam Presti has been the mastermind behind their success. After all, it was Presti who drafted big talents and also shaped the current championship winning roster.

However, new reports have surfaced about his future being uncertain in Oklahoma. The current owners of the Thunder are looking to sell the franchise as NBA valuations touch new heights. The Professional Basketball Club LLC purchased the Thunder in 2006 for $350 million.

Now, the value of the Thunder has reached $4 Billion. Chairman Clay Bennett is now looking to sell the Thunder. Sam Presti enjoyed full autonomy under the current ownership, a privilege that could vanish with new owners at the helm.

New owners like to give their own touch, and in such a case Sam Presti’s freedom could be taken away. A lot of NBA sides have already expressed an interest in acquiring the services of the General Manager. As the OKC Thunder’s sale nears, rival teams may aggressively pursue Presti’s services.

Young Thunder Talents Face Roster Logjam

The OKC Thunder are having a year to remember as their draft picks are also making the waves in the 2025 NBA Summer League. The NBA titleholders picked Brooks Barnhizer (44th pick) and Branden Carlson. Both are having impressive impacts on the side.

However, the Thunder already have their 15 member roster settled, leaving little room to change. OKC has a unique problem of surplus talent, while many of the NBA teams are struggling to strengthen their roster.
