Chris Paul to Retire After 2025-26 Season? Clippers Guard Drops Hint with Video on Social Media

LA Clippers guard Chris Paul has decided to call it a career after the NBA 2025-26 season. Before the Clippers locked horns with the Charlotte Hornets on Saturday afternoon, CP3 shared a video on X, announcing that he will retire after the ongoing season, putting an end to his 21-season long career. Notably, the legendary guard had hinted at retirement by signing a one-year deal to return to the Clippers during the offseason, and he confirmed the notion just one month into the season.

The video featured highlights from the ‘The Point God’s career including selection as the fourth overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft. In the video, he was seen wearing all the jerseys he has donned throughout his career, right from his childhood to the Clippers. The video ended with the phrase, “never delay gratitude”, and was captioned “Back in NC!!! What a ride…Still so much left…GRATEFUL for this last one!!”

Paul’s decision was further confirmed by ESPN’s Shams Charania. “Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul is retiring after this season – his 21st campaign in the NBA,” Charania tweeted. “Paul is a 12-time All-Star, an 11-time member of All-NBA teams, a selection to the 75 greatest players list, nine-time All-Defense and the 2006 Rookie of the Year.”

Chris Paul Creates NBA History Shortly After Announcing Retirement

Shortly after he announced his decision to pull down curtains on his legendary career, Chris Paul found himself in the record books of the NBA. As the Clippers locked horns with the Hornets in North Carolina, Paul became the only player in the history of the league to score at least 20,000 points, 12,000 assists and 6,000 rebounds. With the win, the 40-year-old also surpassed Derek Fisher for ninth all-time regular season wins.

His decision to retire sparked responses from many across the league including Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick. He spoke on CP3’s legacy and called him the “ultimate winner.” “I hope he doesn’t win an NBA championship because that would mean the Clippers win an NBA championship. That’s who Chris Paul is,” said Redick. Apart from him, LeBron James also reacted to the decision. He shared a picture of Paul on his social media and writing, “POINT GOD!!! Been a helluva ride.”

Notably, the future Hall of Famer will play his final regular season game against the Golden State Warriors in April 2026.
