While entering the Levi’s Stadium on Sunday Night Football, the loss in overtime against the Chiefs at Super Bowl LVIII will be on the minds of Kyle Shanahan and co. The 49ers came agonizingly close to beating the Chiefs. But letting bygones be bygones is the key to moving forward in sports.
Big Red and his boy are one of the two teams who are yet to be defeated in the 2024 NFL season. Coming off a bye week with a win-loss record of 5-0, the Chiefs and the Minnesota Vikings (5-0) are the only undefeated teams right now. But that is not the case for Brock Purdy and the 49ers. The 49ers are 3-3 through week 6 and Week 7’ Sunday Night Football game will test them against the mighty Kansas City Chiefs.
Let us have a look at the head-to-head records, the injury reports and predictions for the highly anticipated rematch of the Super Bowl LVIII.
The Kansas City Chiefs lead the overall head-to-head record against the 49ers by 9-7. In the last 5 meetings, the Chiefs have managed to win 4 times opposed to the 49ers winning once. Interestingly, Andy Reid has coached the Chiefs in the last 5 games vs. the 49ers and the last time they lost to San Francisco was way back in 2014.
Since that loss, Kansas City has managed to get the better of the 49ers on 4 occasions, including twice on the biggest stages, the Super Bowl LIV and the Super Bowl LVIII.
After wideout Rashee Rice’s season ending injury, JuJu Smith-Schuster proved his worth against the Saints and the Falcons. But the wide receiver was put as questionable due to a hamstring injury and had limited participation in the practice sessions held on Thursday and Friday.
Defensive end Mike Danna has been ruled out due to injury. Running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire was down to illness but had full participation in all 3 practice sessions. Mecole Hardman who had issues with his knees also showed up with full participation and looked good to go.

At media day on Friday, head coach Kyle Shanahan shared some good and bad (mostly good) injury updates. The biggest of them all was the NFL debut of Ricky Pearsall against the Chiefs, and the return of running back Jordan Mason and wide receiver Deebo Samuel. All three of them are off the IR and set to feature in the clash with Kansas City.
According to Draftkings Sports Book, the 49ers are slight favorites to register a win over the Kansas City Chiefs. With revenge on their minds, the backing from the home crowd and the return of key players like Pearsall, Samuel and Jordan Mason, the 49ers might as well surprise the Chiefs.
