Asa Newell, a 6’9” forward for the Georgia Bulldogs, will play for Atlanta Hawks after getting selected as the 23rd overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. The New Orleans Pelicans traded the young forward to Atlanta. Newell was born in Atlanta, played college basketball in Athens, and will now be a pro for the Hawks.

A product of Montverde Academy, Newell spent two years alongside elite prospects like Cooper Flagg and Derik Queen. In his preseason debut, Newell put up 20 points against Charlotte, then added 19 points and seven rebounds in his first official game at Stegeman Coliseum.
