3-time NBA Champion Danny Green retires: How many teams did the veteran guard play for?

From clutch performances to championship moments, Danny Green leaves a legacy spanning over 15 years and three title-winning teams.

Three-time NBA champion Danny Green officially announced his retirement from professional basketball on his podcast this Thursday (October 10).

Green, who shared his decision on Thursday’s episode, is one of just four players in NBA history to win championships with three different teams (2014 with the Spurs, 2019 with the Raptors, and 2020 with the Lakers).

“I’m officially moving on from the game of basketball, the NBA. It’s been a great run,” Green expressed. “To me, I’m very proud to be able to walk away from the game. I’m at peace with it.”

How many teams did Danny play for?

Known as a reliable 3&D wing during a time when such players were crucial for winning championships, Green spent most of his career with the San Antonio Spurs. In 2014, he won a title with them as part of an experienced squad that delivered some of the most beautiful basketball the league had seen.

In 2019, he secured his second championship with the Toronto Raptors, playing alongside former Spurs teammate Kawhi Leonard. The following season, in 2020, Green joined the Lakers, contributing to their title run alongside LeBron James in the bubble.

The other three being Robert Horry, John Salley, and LeBron James. Earlier in his career, Green also clinched the NCAA championship in 2009 with North Carolina as a senior, playing alongside Ty Lawson and Tyler Hansbrough.

Last season, Green began with the Philadelphia 76ers but was waived following the James Harden trade and did not find another team afterward.

He concludes his career with averages of 8.7 points and 3.4 rebounds over 832 games. Green’s 1,577 career three-pointers place him 43rd all-time in NBA history, and he stands as one of just 12 players to make that many while shooting at least 40% from beyond the arc.

Is Danny Green related to Gerald Green?

Yes, Danny Green and Gerald Green are second cousins. The two only learned about their connection shortly before Gerald entered the NBA in 2005. Gerald has a younger brother, Garlon, who also plays professionally for CSM Oradea in Romania.

How much has Danny Green made in the NBA?

Based on Hoopshype’s records, Danny Green has earned approximately $104,606,233 ($125,772,293 adjusted) over his NBA career.
