Will Giannis Antetokounmpo play tonight against Thunder in NBA Cup final? Latest injury update on Bucks’ star

Gulshan Sharma

Giannis Antetokounmpo was questionable in the last two games for the Bucks.

Milwaukee Bucks are in Las Vegas for the exciting Championship game in the NBA Cup 2024. Giannis Antetokounmpo & Co are unbeaten in the competition and are coming on the back of a 110-102 win over the Atlanta Hawks in the semifinals. The Bucks will take on the Western Conference leaders, the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are on a five-game winning streak.

The comeback story of the Milwaukee Bucks has been fascinating as they started the season 2-8 but have gone 12-3 in the next 15. The Bucks are 6-0 in the NBA’s In-Season Tournament and chasing the glory this year after falling short in the last edition’s semifinals.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is going through the best phase of his career and is looking to accomplish his goal of winning the MVP award for the third time. The ‘Greek Freak’ is averaging 31.4 points, 8.4 rebounds, 7.2 assists, 1.0 steals, and 2.8 blocks per game in the 2024 NBA Cup.

Giannis is a key figure for the Bucks to counter Thunder’s strong defence. He fell short of one assist to drop a triple-double in the semifinal against the Hawks following a 37-point performance in the quarterfinals. The eight-time NBA All-Star is ready to battle with MVP rivals, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who is averaging 30.05 point per game this season.

Giannis Antetokounmpo listed as probable for NBA Cup final

Giannis Antetokounmpo was questionable in the last two games for the Bucks due to “right patella tendinopathy” but still, he made a start in both games. However, Giannis’ status has now been upgraded to probable for tonight’s game.

Milwaukee Bucks have listed one player in the questionable category as Liam Robbins is still recovering from a left ankle sprain. Apart from Giannis, Damian Lillard (Calf Contusion) and Khris Middleton (Non-Covid Illness) are listed as probable.

Most importantly, there is no good update on Middleton’s recovery. The star forward did not practice on Monday due to an illness. The medical team will monitor him before the game.

Middleton had a poor outing in the semifinal games against the Atlanta Hawks, scoring six points on 2-for-7 shooting, three rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block. Since his return from an ankle injury, the 33-year-old is averaging 7.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.5 steals in 21.3 minutes per game.
