Doncic’s involvement in recent signings shows he’s intent on shaping the Lakers to his style. This suggests Luka Doncic sees a long-term future in LA, a view shared by the Lakers brass.

The Lakers are shaping the roster around Doncic, who’s quickly becoming the face of the franchise. All the parties are preparing for the post LeBron James era. The 40-year-old is likely to retire at the end of this season, which could kick-start a new era for the side.

LeBron James previously also played a role as a recruiter building his own side. That mantle now sits with Luka Doncic, shown by his personal outreach to Marcus Smart during negotiations.

ESPN Reporter Reveals Doncic Extension Status

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, the Lakers are all set to tie Luka Doncic to a massive extension deal. The agreement between the two sides is already there to extend and come August, the two sides are likely to officially ink the deal.

Dave McMenamin, “As we look forward, we look at that August 2 date, when the Lakers can offer an extension to Luka Doncic worth four years, $222 million up to that figure. I would say, if you’re a Laker fan, you shouldn’t have any worry about Luka coming to some sort of an extension or agreement.”

He added, “Which means he won’t just be a Laker for next season. He won’t just be a Laker for the season after that. I think at a minimum, we’re talking about a three-year extension.”

Luka Doncic has put the trade rumors to rest, reaffirming his commitment to the Lakers and his contentment in Los Angeles.
