Michael Porter Jr. Reveals Surprising Reaction After Being Suddenly Traded to Brooklyn Nets

The Nuggets moved Michael Porter Jr. to the Nets along with a 2032 first-round pick.

Michael Porter Jr. revealed the surprising reaction he had when he got to know about his sudden trade from the Denver Nuggets to the Brooklyn Nets. Earlier during the 2025 NBA Free Agency, the Nuggets moved their key player Michael Porter Jr. to the Nets along with a 2032 first-round pick. In this deal, the Nuggets received forward Cameron Johnson as well as a 2032 first-round pick. Porter Jr. learned about the deal while he was moving to France, and while others would have made calls or panicked, the 27-year-old had a very calm approach towards the deal.

Revealing his reaction, Porter Jr. told Clutch Point’s Erik Slater, “I kind of flipped the script in my head pretty quickly. Honestly, I’m not like a super anxious guy or anything like that. So on the plane when I found out, I was kind of just like, ‘Well, I’m traded,’ and kind of just took a nap afterwards.”

Porter Jr. made it in the NBA after being drafted as the 14th overall in the 2018 NBA Draft by the Nuggets. However, a back injury delayed his debut and ended up costing him the entire 2018-19 season. However, once he was well, the 2023 champion showcased his skills as an efficient sharpshooter. In the 2024-25 season, he averaged 18.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He was shooting 50.4% from the field and 39.5% from the three-point range.

Michael Porter Jr. is Excited for Brooklyn Nets

Porter Jr. also expressed his gratitude for his stint in the Nuggets and expressed his excitement for the new chapter in his professional journey. He said, “I love Denver, but I’m excited for this new opportunity.” He was a third scoring option behind Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray at the Nuggets. Talking about it, he said, “When you’re on a team with so many good players, you have to sacrifice. But I feel like I haven’t reached my ceiling. I’m excited to see what I can do with a bigger role.”

There is no doubt in the fact that the Missouri alum is an efficient shooter. However, he has faced a few challenges without Jokic and his numbers have seen a dip in contests where he had to create more opportunities for himself. The Indianapolis born is likely to get more opportunities as a primary option with the Nets. Addressing the same, he said, “There will be more isolation and self-creation. Jordi (Jordi Fernandez) and I have talked about putting me in comfortable spots on the floor. I’m looking forward to it.”

What looks like a fresh start for both the parties, Porter Jr. and the Nets will aim to unlock another level in the game. The Nets would aim to end the season in a better way after having finished at 12th spot in the 2024-25 season with a 26-56 record.
