Ty Jerome Set to Test Free Agency After Cavaliers Roster Shake-Up, Teams from West Line Up for Guard

The Cleveland Cavaliers have had a busy few days, completing several moves focused on strengthening their roster. They recently added Lonzo Ball from the Chicago Bulls and also picked Tyrese Proctor and Saliou Niang from the 2025 NBA Draft.

This means that they will also need to offload players to stay under the second apron. With the inclusion of Lonzo Ball, Ty Jerome is expected to leave the Cleveland based side in free agency. ESPN’s Shams Charania suggested that Ty Jerome’s exit is certain due to the overwhelming number of guards in the side.

Ty Jerome, who signed a two-year, $5 million deal with the Eastern Conference’s top seed in 2023, is now set to leave as a free agent. The shooting guard featured in 70 games for the Cavs last season. He averaged 12.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.4 assists.

Jerome shot an impressive 51.6 percent from the field and 43.9 percent from the arc. The 27-year-old was open to the idea of extending his stay in Cleveland. However, his salary demands didn’t fit right with the front office who wanted the roster to not cross well above the second apron.

Utah, Dallas Eye Ty Jerome

Utah Jazz are reportedly interested in acquiring the services of Ty Jerome. The Western Conference side is also open to the guard’s $14 million annual salary. As the story develops of him leaving the Cavs as a free agent more sides are expected to show interest.

The Dallas Mavericks who are actively looking to add a guard in the roster are also showing interest in Jerome. Following Luka Doncic’s departure, the Mavericks front office has aggressively sought a prime-aged guard to anchor their backcourt.

With Jerome expected to leave the Cavaliers in free agency, more teams are likely to join the race for his signature.
