Stephen Curry Drops 49 Points to Join Michael Jordan in Exclusive Club as Warriors Edge Spurs in NBA Cup

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry once again proved why he is known as one of the greatest players to step up on the basketball court. On Friday, November 15, as the Warriors locked horns with the San Antonio Spurs in a thrilling NBA Cup group stage encounter, Curry came up with an extraordinary performance of 49 points, combined with four rebounds and two assists. Curry was shooting 16-of-26 from the field and 9-of-27 from the three-point range.

This was his second straight 40-point game for the first time since November 2022. With this gameplay, the 37-year-old joined Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan in an elite NBA list. He is the only second player in the history of the league to record back-to-back games of 45+ points after turning 35 years old, the first player being Jordan. Notably, in the previous game against the same rivals, Curry had recorded 46 points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Warriors Record Gritty Win Over Spurs in Second Consecutive Game

The Dubs recorded their second straight win over the Spurs as both teams came against each other in an NBA Cup clash. Apart from Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler also came up with a notable performance of 21 points, eight rebounds, and one assist. Will Richard dropped 10 points and one rebound for the Warriors as they improved their tally to 8-6 with the win.

On the other hand, Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs with 26 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists. He was closely followed by De’Aaron Fox with 24 points, four rebounds, and ten assists while Stephon Castle came up with 13 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Julian Champagnie poured on 14 points off the bench while Devin Vassell scored 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists. The loss dropped the Spurs’ tally to 8-4 in the season.
