Edwards has been wearing the same orange wristband since January 2025, rarely stepping on the court without it. The story behind the wristband began in January after a record-setting night against the Pistons. Anthony Edwards, after the Detroit Pistons defeat in which he also scored a career high 53 points, met a fan.

On the sidelines, the fan donned an Anthony Edwards jersey that read, “To Do: 1. Beat Cancer. 2. Be The Next MJ.” Luca, the 6-year-old boy, was suffering from Leukemia. Also, the boy gifted the Timberwolves star an orange wristband that read, “Love Like Luca.”
The forward was moved by the gesture.

Anthony Edwards promised to always wear the orange band for the rest of his career. He stated to the fan, “I’ll wear this for the rest of my career on my left arm band just for you.” The No. 5 also took Luca to the Minnesota Timberwolves’ locker room and introduced him to the other players.

Luca gave the similar orange wristbands to the other players as well. He also got autographs from his favorite players. Since the story surfaced, demand for the “Love Like Luca” wristbands has surged across the country.

Wristband With a Silent Message

Anthony Edwards has kept his promise so far, wearing the orange wristband on his left arm. He has done so in almost every game since he met Luca in January. As the child keeps fighting against cancer, Edwards is supporting him in the battle through his on-court gesture.
