The Oklahoma City Thunder took up the last Conference Finals berth in the NBA Playoffs 2025. After finishing the regular season with the best 68-14 record, the Thunder began their NBA Playoffs 2025 journey by pulling off a 4-0 sweep over the Memphis Grizzlies. In the Western Conference Semifinals, they clashed against the Denver Nuggets and took them down in a thrilling seven-game series.
As the Oklahoma City Thunder advance to the Conference Finals, it marked their first appearance since 2016 playoffs. Here, they are set to clash against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Thunder have been in prolific form throughout the season, and considering the kind of gameplay they displayed, they are expected to show heavy dominance over their counterparts in the forthcoming series.
The Western Conference Finals series between the Thunder and the Timberwolves is set to begin on May 20. As the franchise aims to end the season on a high, let’s have a look at its previous record in the Conference Finals.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have played a total of 58 seasons in the NBA so far. Earlier known as the Seattle SuperSonics, the Thunder have had a rich history when it comes to NBA Playoffs. Overall, they have played 34 postseasons, and made it to the finals in the West 11 times (six as SuperSonics and five as Thunder).
As the SuperSonics, their first NBA Conference Finals appearance came in 1978, where they suffered a 4-3 loss to the Washington Bullets. However, after relocating to Oklahoma City, the first time they made it to this stage was in 2011, where they suffered a 4-1 loss to the Dallas Mavericks.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have made it to NBA Finals four times. Three of their NBA Finals appearances came as Seattle SuperSonics, in 1978, 1979, and 1996. After relocating to Oklahoma City after the 2007-08 season, they made it to the summit clash once, in 2012.
The Thunder are one of the ten NBA franchises (including one defunct franchise) to have won the championship title once. The only time they won the NBA Finals was in 1979, when they were known as the SuperSonics.
