The Boston Celtics began their 2025 Playoffs campaign with a 103-86 win over the Magic.
The reigning champions, Boston Celtics began their pursuit of title defense by taking on the Orlando Magic in the 2025 NBA playoffs round 1. In Game 1 of the series, the Magic, seeded seventh in the East, visited TD Garden on Sunday, April 20, where they were handed a 103-86 defeat. Before the beginning of the game, Celtics’ star guard Jaylen Brown was seen cracking jokes on the rivals, using some Harry Potter references.
Brown was mic’d-up by the ESPN for him to speak about the game. The 2024 Finals MVP took a dig at the Magic and said, “They the Magic but they know who really got the magic over here, no Harry Potter.” Playing for 30 minutes, Brown finished the game with 16 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. He was shooting 6-of-14 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line.
Notably, Brown missed the last three regular season games for the Celtics and hasn’t been able to cross the 30-point mark since March 12 with a knee bruise. Averaging 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in the season, the 28-year-old received multiple injections to relieve the pain.

Despite suffering an injury, Brown wasn’t on minute restriction, and played for 30 minutes. His teammate, Jayson Tatum, didn’t leave the opportunity to praise him for playing through the pain.
In the postgame media interaction, Tatum talked about Brown and said that Brown is taking on the challenge and contributing when the team needs it. Tatum told the media, “He knows that we need him out there, and we understand that he’s fighting through and trying to give it his all. We appreciate that… He did his part tonight and contributed to us getting a win.”
Notably, Tatum poured in 17 points, 14 rebounds, and four assists. He had one steal and one block, and was shooting 8/22 from the field and 1/ 8 from the three-point range in 40 minutes of action.
Talking about the game, the 18-time champions were trailing 49-48 by the half time. However, they bounced back in the second half and outscored the opposition 30-18 in the third quarter and 25-19 in the fourth to open the 2025 playoffs campaign with a win. Apart from Tatum and Brown, they key contribution for Boston came from Derrick White, who scored 30 points, and had four rebounds and two assists.
On the other hand, Paolo Banchero led the Magic with 36 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. Franz Wagner, on the other hand, had 23 points, three rebounds, and five assists.
The Celtics will now aim to solidify their lead 2-0 in the series as they clash against Magic in Game 2 on April 23 at 7 p.m. ET.
