The Boston Celtics will face the Orlando Magic in Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs. The Celtics are the 2nd seed in the East, who will take on the 7th seeded Orlando Magic, and while the Magic are the underdog going into the series, can they take Game 1 of the 7 game series? The Boston Celtics cruised through the regular season, and firmly secured the second seed in the East. While teams like OKC and the Cavaliers are a threat, the fact remains that Boston has the most stacked lineup and simply have too much talent to compete against. Their stars Jayson Tatum, and Jalen Brown remained excellent throughout the season as they averaged 26.8 points, and 22.2 points respectively. While their scoring averages are down compared to their previous years, we need to keep in mind that the Celtics don’t need them to score 30 plus every night, as they have other pieces who can share the offensive duties. For context, Payton Prichard had a career year this season as his scoring averages went up from 9.6 points in 2023-24 season, to 14.3 points in 2024-2025 season.
The Celtics are one of the favorites to win the title this season, and if they win the championship, they’ll be the first team to repeat as champions, since the Kevin Durant Golden State era.
The Orlando Magic have had somewhat of a disappointing season compared to their 2023-24 season. They finished their season with a 41-41 record, giving them a .500 win percentage, and they had to go through the Play-In Tournament to get back into the playoffs. The Magic have lost their essential pieces to injury this season, in Jalen Suggs and Moritz Wagner, who both gave the Magic valuable minutes when they were on the court. Meanwhile, Magic’s stars Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner quietly had their best seasons offensively, averaging 25.9 points per game and 24.2 points respectively.
The Magic have the second highest winning percentage against the Boston Celtics as they have won 6 and only lost 4 games since 2022, giving the Magic a win percentage of 60.0. The Magic can beat anybody on any given night, but this will arguably be the toughest matchup they’ll face with their current core of Banchero, and Wagner. Can they pull off an upset? As stated earlier, the Magic have two players on the injury report who are essential to their success. Jalen Suggs is out for the rest of the season as he’s dealing with a left knee trochlea cartilage tear, and Moritz Wagner will also not play up anytime soon as he’s still healing from a left knee torn ACL.
The Boston Celtics do not have anybody on the injury report, and that is great for their championship hopes this season.
