Domantas Sabonis Injury: Massive Injury Update on Availability of Kings’ Center

The Sacramento Kings star Domantas Sabonis may be out for a shorter period due to a right ankle sprain, sources confirmed to ESPN’s Shams Charania on Tuesday. The Kings center is likely to remain out for 10 days and it might affect Sacramento’s playoff push.

Sabonis suffered an ankle sprain during Monday night’s 132-122 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. His left eye collided with Memphis’ Luke Kennard’s head. The Kings star is leading the NBA in rebounds with an impressive 13.9 per game.

Following an injury, Sabonis was forced to leave in the third quarter. The 28-year-old center recently recovered from a hamstring injury after missing six games. Sabonis is a vital figure in the Kings’ starting lineup and the franchise are 3-6 without the former Indiana center.

The injury to Sabonis came at the wrong time for the Kings as the franchise are pushing hard to crack the playoffs code. Sacramento are only three games ahead of the Phoenix Suns and two games clear of the Mavericks for the final play-in spot in the Western Conference.

Sabonis is mainly out of the entire seven-game homestand. He could be back as early as the start of the Kings’ 6-game road trip. The center should be available for the final five games in the regular season.

Sabonis is averaging 19.2 points, 13.9 rebounds, and 6.2 assists per game in the regular season. Jonas Valanciunas is likely to replace him in the starting lineup. With 15 more games left in the regular season, the Kings have to produce the best performance to clinch a play-in spot.

Meanwhile, the Kings also signed forward Terry Taylor to a 10-day contract last week. Doug Christie would make changes to the lineup in the upcoming crucial game against the Cavs. Sacramento have posted a 33-34 record in the regular season and sitting ninth in the West.
