Dejounte Murray Injury Update: Left hand fracture scare for Pelicans’ guard vs. Bulls

In his very first game of the season, New Orleans Pelicans’ star Dejounte Murray has suffered a significant blow. The Pelicans were in action against the Chicago Bulls in their season opener and recorded a 123-111 victory at home.

As reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Pelicans’ guard sustained a left hand injury during the game against the Chicago Bulls. The reports have revealed that he has fractured his left hand. In a post on X, Charania reported that Murray will be out for an extended period of time. He stated:

While the exact moment of the fracture is unknown, Murray likely suffered the injury with 2:21 left in the fourth quarter of their NBA season opener against the Bulls. This happened after Murray scored a 3-pointer and hit the floor after drawing a foul from Zach LaVine.

As the exact time frame for Murray’s return is unknown at the moment, the injury is a massive setback for his team. The player was a key offseason acquisition for the Pelicans who put together a trade package to bring him in. The former Atlanta Hawks player delivered a solid debut performance and recorded a double-double. He finished the game with 14 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds, and a steal.

That said, it will be interesting to see as to when Dejounte Murray can return to the court for New Orleans Pelicans after recovering from his injury.
