Boston Celtics set record for most 3-pointers on opening night in rout of New York Knicks

Celtics made 17 3P's in the first half, falling one short of tying the NBA record for 3s made in a half.

The Boston Celtics equaled the NBA record for most 3-pointers made on the NBA opening night in Tuesday night’s 132-109 win against the New York Knicks. Jaylen Brown’s shot broke the Charlotte Hornets’ previous mark of 23 which they set in 2019.

The reigning champions also equaled the Milwaukee Bucks’ record for most three-pointers in a single game. They had a chance to break the record, but they failed to reach the milestone, missing all 13 shots in the final 8 minutes of the fourth quarter.

The Celtics finished with 29 made 3s. Jayson Tatum led the team with eight 3-point shots made and tallied 37 points and ten assists. Derrick White followed closely with six 3-pointers and 24 points.

The reigning champions also set a new franchise record for most three-pointers in a game, surpassing their previous mark of 27, which was set against the Knicks in New York two years ago.

For the Knicks, despite shooting an impressive 55.1% from the field, the visitors couldn’t go over the line. Knicks saw solid contributions from Jalen Brunson (22 points) and Mikal Bridges (16 points), but they struggled from deep, shooting just 11-of-30 from three.
