3-Point face off between Steph Curry and Sabrina Ionescu to not return this year at NBA All-Star Weekend

There will be no Stephen Curry vs. Sabrina Ionescu face-off this year at the 2025 NBA All-Star Weekend. The NBA announced that one of the most exciting clashes of last year’s All-Star festivities, which went on to become a fan’s favorite, will not be making its comeback during Feb. 14 to Feb. 16 this year.

Notably, the 2024 All-Star Weekend saw the NBA hosting its first-ever NBA vs. WNBA 3-Point Challenge. The last year’s competition saw Curry winning the contest with 29 points over Ionescu, who tallied a total of 26 points.

The WNBA star had challenged Curry to a 3-point competition after she recorded 37 points in the final round of the WNBA 3-Point Contest in All-Star 2023.

After last year’s event, Sabrina said, “We’ve been talking about finding different ways to change this up next year.”

She added, “I think he has a partner in mind that’s going to join him. So I’m open to any partner that could help me win and take that belt that he has up front and center away from him.”

It would have involved Indiana Fever superstar and reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark and Curry’s former teammate Klay Thompson in a 2-on-2 format.

However, Clark declined the opportunity, and ESPN’s Shams Charania had stated,“Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark will not participate in NBA All-Star special 3-point shootout in San Francisco and ‘wants her first three-point contest to be at WNBA All-Star in Indianapolis this summer,’ her representatives at Excel Sports said.” Talking about this year’s contest, the Golden State Warriors superstar said that he wanted the match to occur.

NBA spokesman Mike Bass confirms no NBA vs WNBA 3-Point Challenge at All-Star Weekend 2025

NBA’s spokesperson Mike Bass confirmed that the NBA won’t move ahead with the highly-popular face off from the last edition and decided to scrap off the event.

He told ESPN, “We weren’t able to land on a plan we thought would raise the bar off of last year’s special moment. We all agreed not to proceed and will instead keep the focus on All-Star Sunday’s new format.”

The NBA All-Star Saturday night drew 4.6 million viewers last year, which was the highest in three years and saw a peak at 5.4 million during Curry and Ionescu face off.
