VIDEO: LeBron James playfully mocks son Bronny during his first Lakers media day – “Worst interview of the day”

LeBron James and his 19-year-old son, Bronny James, were among the first Lakers players to hit the court, happily posing together in their gold Lakers uniforms. It’s no surprise—they’re the first father-son duo to play in the NBA. But does that mean they can’t have some fun along the way?

During Bronny’s interview, LeBron, being the playful dad he is, jumped in and joked, “The worst interview of the day right here. By far. Terrible.” Classic LeBron!

LeBron James and Bronny James were a riot

Earlier in the day, as Bronny James wrapped up his chat with Spectrum, LeBron walked over. Bronny, in true son fashion, gave a playful “Ew” when he spotted his dad approaching.

Just last week, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka mentioned how LeBron gave Bronny a lesson during practice, trash-talking him after. Bronny had his own version of the story to share.

“Alright, in all seriousness, I checked the film, and yeah, he did step out of bounds,” Bronny said. “But I’m not gonna dive into that right now.”

LeBron James is thankful for the glory, and the grind

As LeBron James nears his 40th birthday in December, he reflected on how those nail-biting USA Basketball games against Serbia and France—both of which he compared to “two Game 7s back-to-back”—reignited his passion for the game.

“It felt amazing to play meaningful basketball again,” LeBron said. “At my age, with the mileage I have, playing at that level gave me the reassurance that I’ve still got plenty left. Whether it’s winning a gold medal or lifting the Larry O’Brien Trophy, I know I can still make it happen.”

However, the team wasn’t overly confident, fully aware of the challenges they faced.

As for the James family, they’re adjusting to sharing the court now

Bronny has learned to tune out the critics who say, “people that don’t think I should be here,” and he’s gotten comfortable talking smack with his dad. In a conversation with ESPN, Bronny recalled how LeBron scored on him during a pick-up game, but argued it shouldn’t have counted, claiming his dad stepped out of bounds.

“The refs… he’s in year whatever it is, so of course, he’s going to get that call,” Bronny laughed.

And about LeBron’s comment on Uninterrupted’s “The Shop,” where he said Bronny can’t call him “Dad” at work?

“Whatever I call him in the moment, he’s just gonna have to deal with it,” Bronny quipped.

Playing with his son made LeBron ‘lose focus’

On the DraftKings podcast last week, LeBron shared a special moment during his interview with Mike Golic Sr. and Mike Golic Jr., where he saw a reflection of his own family in the father-son duo.

“This week, we got back in the gym, and for the first time, Bronny and I were basically on the court as professionals. Training, going head-to-head, prepping for the season. There were a few moments where, honestly, I kinda lost focus,” LeBron shared.

Watching his son get ready for the NBA stopped LeBron in his tracks. Though he’s done this for 21 seasons, it’s different having Bronny by his side. LeBron might even take a step back at times this season, just to watch his son shine on the court.
