L’Université du Michigan a décidé d’auto-imposer une suspension de trois matchs à son entraîneur en chef de football, Jim Harbaugh, pour la saison 2023.<\/h2>

Cette décision, notamment prise avant tout mandat officiel de la NCAA, découle d’allégations selon lesquelles les règles auraient été violées pendant la période morte du COVID-19. La suspension de Harbaugh le verra manquer des matchs cruciaux à domicile contre East Carolina, l’UNLV et Bowling Green. Cependant, il sera de retour sur le terrain pour le match d’ouverture du Big Ten des Wolverines contre Rutgers le 23 septembre.<\/p>

Alors qu’il a été rapporté que Harbaugh et la NCAA penchaient initialement vers une résolution négociée qui le verrait purger une suspension de quatre matchs, cet accord n’a pas été approuvé par le comité des infractions de la NCAA. Cette décision de Michigan peut être considérée comme une tactique visant à adoucir toute décision future potentielle de la NCAA, qui, selon ESPN<\/a>, pourrait ne pas être rendue publique avant 2024.<\/p>

La nature et la gravité de ces allégations restent inconnues, mais Harbaugh est accusé d’une violation de niveau I, une classification grave, suggérant qu’il n’a pas coopéré ou même peut-être induit en erreur les enquêteurs de la NCAA<\/a> sur les infractions présumées.<\/p>

Contrairement à certains récits médiatiques suggérant que l’affaire était aussi insignifiante qu’un paiement inapproprié pour un cheeseburger, Derrick Crawford, vice-président des opérations d’audience de la NCAA<\/a>, a précisé que les préoccupations tournent autour du « recrutement inadmissible sur et hors campus pendant la période morte du COVID-19 et les activités de coaching non autorisées. »<\/p>

Jim Harbaugh a guidé vers des titres consécutifs de la Big Ten et obtenant un bilan de 74-25 pendant son mandat, s’est abstenu de commenter directement l’enquête. Cependant, il a exprimé le désir d’être transparent, déclarant qu’il souhaitait discuter ouvertement de la question le moment venu.<\/p>
