Cathy Engelbert, la « commissionner » de la WNBA, a confirmé que les discussions étaient en bonne voie pour voir une expansion prochainement.<\/b><\/h2>

Cela fait 15 années que la WNBA n’a plus connu d’expansion de sa ligue, avec l’arrivée du Atlanta Dream en 2008. Entre temps, la ligue s’est restructurée et à vu des déménagements comme ceux de Tulsa et San Antonio pour respectivement Dallas et Las Vegas. Mais la ligue compte toujours 12 équipes.<\/span><\/p>

Depuis quelques années, les rumeurs d’expansions se sont multipliées et devraient se concrétiser. Cathy Engelbert a <\/span>annoncé<\/span><\/a> en conclusion du All-Star Week-End avoir eu des discussions avec des investisseurs sérieux.<\/span><\/p>

Nos conversations avec des groupes de propriétaires potentiels vont dans la bonne direction.<\/span><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>

Si il n’y a eu aucune confirmation concernant les villes susceptibles d’accueillir une équipe WNBA, Engelbert a souligné qu’elle avait apprécié l’engouement autour du match de présaison<\/a> organisé à Toronto<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>

Nous avons été ravis de ce que ça a donné là-bas. Nous en parlons encore. Il y a encore beaucoup de buzz, et nous apprécions que nos homologues canadiens aient fait en sorte que ce soit un succès.<\/span><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>

Un autre candidat s’est aussi déclaré, en la <\/span>personne de Joe Lacob<\/span><\/a>, le propriétaire des Golden State Warriors. San Francisco pourrait être un marché viable pour la ligue.<\/span><\/p>

Nous avons été beaucoup concentrés ces dernières années sur notre nouvelle salle. Ensuite, il y a eu la pandémie, et ce n’était pas quelque chose qu’on pouvait alors mettre en haut de notre liste. Mais nous sommes très intéressés, on pense qu’on pourrait être un endroit phénoménal pour une équipe WNBA. On pourrait faire un super boulot.<\/span><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>

De son côté, la vice-présidente du syndicat des joueuses, Kelsey Plum, a rappelé que d’autres enjeux devaient passer avant une potentielle expansion. La joueuse des Aces a évoqué les conditions de voyages ou le salaire des joueuses, des questions qui sont récurrentes au sein de la ligue.<\/span><\/p>

J’ai l’impression que nous avons quelques lacunes sur lesquelles nous pouvons travailler actuellement. L’expansion est importante, la croissance de la ligue, des villes, et je pense que c’est quelque chose qui viendra. Mais je ne pense pas que ça doive passer avant les vols privés ou les avantages salariaux.<\/span><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>
