Samedi a été une journée de surprises au Comerica Park, des surprises même pour Matt Manning, qui a quitté le monticule après une performance sans coup sûr en septième manche lors de la victoire 2-0 des Tigers sur les Blue Jays de Toronto.<\/h2>

Le moment était historique, non seulement pour Manning, mais pour toute l’équipe des Detroit Tigers alors qu’ils célébraient le neuvième no-hitter de l’histoire de la franchise et leur tout premier no-hitter combiné, réalisé par le travail d’équipe à trois lanceurs de Manning, Jason Foley<\/strong><\/a> et Alex Lange<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>

L’exploit rappelait un autre match historique des Tigers lorsque Justin Verlander a tenu les Blue Jays sans coup sûr à Toronto en 2011. Maintenant, une douzaine d’années plus tard, Matt Manning<\/strong><\/a> a mené ses compatriotes lanceurs dans un exploit similaire contre une puissante formation des Blue Jays. Cette sortie réussie marque le deuxième no-hitter pour les Tigers au cours des trois dernières années, après le blanchissage des Mariners par Spencer Turnbull en 2021, et le premier no-hitter au Comerica Park depuis le blanchissage de Verlander contre les Brewers en 2007.<\/p>

La performance de Manning a été la pierre angulaire de ce no-hitter, même si le droitier n’était pas au courant qu’il avait tenu les Blue Jays sans coup sûr jusqu’à ce qu’il soit retiré. Son objectif tout au long de ses 6 2\/3 manches sur le monticule était de lancer profondément dans le match, offrant du repos à un enclos de releveur mis rudement à contribution.<\/p>

Naviguant à travers une averse de pluie qui a retardé l’heure de départ et compliqué son emprise, Manning a fait face à l’adversité dès le début alors qu’il frappait son premier frappeur et concédait un but sur balle pour le second.<\/p>

Bien qu’il n’ait enregistré que cinq strike swinging, dont quatre de son slider, Matt Manning a excellé avec 23 strikes appelées.
