Les Vikings du Minnesota se retrouvent dans un dilemme avec leur quarterback vedette, Kirk Cousins, refusant d’envisager de nouvelles discussions de contrat jusqu’en mars 2024.<\/h2>

Cette situation ouvre la voie à une intersaison intéressante où les Vikings doivent faire face au départ potentiel de leur vétéran et QB 1.<\/p>

Le franchise tag – un contrat d’un an souvent utilisé par les équipes de la NFL pour retenir les joueurs clés qui sont sur le point de devenir agent libre – vient à l’esprit. Cependant, un aspect particulier du contrat actuel de Kirk Cousins<\/strong><\/a> nie la possibilité que les Vikings utilisent cette approche.<\/p>

Selon une source fiable de PFT<\/a>, le contrat de Cousins, qui n’a pas de clause spécifique pour empêcher les Vikings de le taguer, est annulé juste après la date limite de demande de franchise tag. Cousins ne sera pas dans le pipeline pour devenir agent libre lorsque les Vikings auront la possibilité de le taguer. Son contrat n’expirera qu’après la fermeture de la fenêtre pour placer un franchise tag.<\/p>

Cette situation crée un défi unique pour les Vikings. Le plafond actuel de Cousins atteint 20,25 millions de dollars. Cependant, si les Vikings envisageaient d’utiliser le franchise tag sur Kirk Cousins, ils feraient face à une énorme augmentation de 44%, sur la base de son plafond de pré-restructuration de 36,25 millions de dollars. Cette augmentation porterait l’offre de franchise à un montant astronomique de 52,2 millions de dollars.<\/p>

Les implications fiscales d’une telle décision sont importantes. Dans une ligue avec un plafond salarial strict, un plafond de 52,2 millions de dollars pour un joueur mettrait à rude épreuve la capacité des Vikings à constituer une liste compétitive autour de Kirk Cousins. Cela limiterait leur flexibilité financière pour retenir les joueurs clés, répondre aux besoins et signer des agents libres à fort impact.<\/p>

En d’autres termes, quel que soit le caractère pratique du franchise tag, il est fondamentalement irréalisable. Par conséquent, les Vikings sont donc pris dans une impasse. Ils doivent soit obtenir la signature de Kirk Cousins sur un nouveau contrat avant le début de la free agency, soit se préparer à la perspective que Kirk Cousins s’aventure sur le marché des agents libres.<\/p>

Ce dernier scénario se produirait six ans après qu’il soit initialement devenu agent libre à Washington et ait ensuite rejoint les Vikings.<\/p>

La performance de Cousins au cours de la saison à venir aura sans aucun doute un impact significatif sur le déroulement de ces négociations. Cependant, ce qui est certain, c’est que cette situation présente un casse-tête complexe pour les Vikings.
