Arrivé en provenance des Cubs de Chicago à l’intersaison dernière, avec à la clé un contrat de 87.5 millions de dollars sur 5 ans, Wilson Contreras va devoir faire preuve de versatilité dans les prochaines semaines.<\/h2>

C’est une annonce qui a soulevé beaucoup de réactions, et pour cause : Wilson Contreras<\/a> ne devrait vraisemblablement pas être derrière le marbre pour plusieurs semaines. Il aura donc principalement un rôle de frappeur désigné, et selon les besoin il pourrait avoir quelques apparitions dans le champ gauche.<\/p>

Contreras, 31 ans dans quelques jours, ne fait pourtant pas un début de saison si loin de ces standards habituels puisqu’il frappe à 0,265\/0,341\/0,393. Rien de transcendant mais c’est plutôt collectivement que les Cardinals peinent en ce début de saison.<\/p>

Dernier de la NL Central, avec un bilan de 11 victoires pour 24 défaites, St. Louis fait face à des difficultés dans tout les compartiments du jeu : la 7ème pire rotation de lanceurs ( ERA à 5.39) tandis qu’ils se classent 3ème pire équipe de la ligue en terme de moyenne à la batte, derrière Cincinnati et les A’s.<\/p>

 » Que les choses soient claires, nous ne perdons pas nos matchs à cause de Wilson Contreras  » a déclaré Oliver Marmol<\/strong>, manager des Cardinals, suite à cette annonce.<\/p>\n

« Wilson a .800 d’OPS et est très productif à la batte. Et cela va continuer mais nous devons d’abord donner confiance aux lanceurs. »<\/p><\/blockquote>

Voila donc les arguments avancés par Oliver Marmol : Les lanceurs ont besoin d’être plus à l’aise et cela passe visiblement par un changement temporaire de receveur. C’est donc Andrew Knizner qui  devrait prendre la place vacante laissée par Contreras. Il offre certes moins d’assurance à la batte, mais ce dernier pourra offrir ce que Marmol a évoqué : il connait parfaitement ses partenaires sur le monticule, puisqu’il a passé toute sa carrière au sein de la franchise.<\/p>

Ce choix pose également question concernant l’alignement à prévoir : Gorman, le frappeur désigné habituel, va forcément devoir laisser sa place et potentiellement avoir moins d’impact qu’à l’accoutumé. Lui qui est statistiquement le plus prolifique de l’équipe (7 homeruns et 23 RBI).<\/p>

C’est enfin dans le champ extérieur que les choix se multiplient, poste déjà bien fourni du côté de St Louis. Entre les retours de blessures, les joueurs réinstallés en ligues mineures faute de temps de jeu (Jordan Walker par exemple).<\/p>
