Les Falcons d’Atlanta ont confirmé la signature de Calais Campbell pour un contrat d’un an, renforçant leur défense avec une présence de vétérans.<\/strong><\/h2>

Cette décision s’aligne sur la déclaration de l’entraîneur en chef Arthur Smith selon laquelle l’équipe devait faire des ajouts à son front défensif après la fin de la saison.<\/p>

Plus tôt cette intersaison, les Falcons ont remplacé le coordinateur parti à la retraite Dean Pees par Ryan Nielsen et ont ajouté le safety Jessie Bates III, le plaqueur défensif David Onyemata et le linebacker Kaden Elliss pendant les premiers jours de la free agency. Avec l’ajout de Calais Campbell<\/strong><\/a>, les Falcons devraient améliorer leur pass rush aux côtés du plaqueur défensif Grady Jarrett.<\/p>

Les 5,5 sacks de Campbell la saison dernière se seraient classés deuxièmes chez les Falcons en 2022 et auraient mené l’équipe en 2021. Le groupe de pass rusher des Falcons se compose désormais de Calais Campbell, Jarrett, Onyemata, Elliss, Ta’Quon Graham, Lorenzo Carter, Arnold Ebiketie et DeAngelo Malone.<\/p>

Les Ravens de Baltimore avaient espéré signer à nouveau Campbell avec un salaire réduit plus tard cette intersaison après l’avoir coupé le 13 mars pour faire de la place pour les 32,416 millions de dollars de Lamar Jackson. Les Ravens ont réussi à créer 7 millions de dollars d’espace de plafond en supprimant Campbell, qui avait le cinquième salaire le plus élevé (9,44 millions de dollars) de l’équipe.<\/p>

Bien qu’il soit le plus ancien joueur de ligne défensif actif de la NFL à 36 ans, Campbell a annoncé en février qu’il prévoyait de revenir pour sa 16e saison. Cependant, il a rencontré des problèmes de durabilité, ratant un total de neuf matchs au cours des trois dernières années. En réponse, les Ravens pourraient déplacer Broderick Washington dans la position de départ de Campbell s’ils ne comblent pas ce départ.<\/p>

Le retour de Calais Campbell sur le terrain est en partie motivé par l’objectif d’atteindre le palier des 100 sacks en carrière, alors qu’il en a actuellement 99. Le choix de deuxième tour en 2008 a enregistré 809 plaquages et 237 coups sur quarterback tout en jouant avec les Cardinals de l’Arizona, les Jaguars de Jacksonville et les Ravens. Calais Campbell a été nommé All-Pro de la première équipe en 2017 et a terminé deuxième lors du vote du joueur défensif de l’année.<\/p>

En dehors du terrain, Campbell est connu pour son esprit sportif, remportant le prix Art Rooney Sportsmanship cette saison et le prix Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year en 2019.
