Alors que le froid s’installe sur la Lombardie, la planète hockey a les yeux rivés sur Milan pour le début des Jeux Olympiques 2026. Dès le 5 février, les meilleures joueuses du monde patineront sur les glaces de la Milano Santagiulia et de la Rho Ice Hockey Arena. Pour cette édition 2026, le tournoi féminin entre dans une nouvelle dimension, porté par l’essor de la Ligue professionnelle (PWHL) et une densité de talent inédite. Présentation des enjeux et du format de ce tournoi féminin de hockey sur glace des Jeux Olympiques 2026.<\/p>

Le format de compétition<\/h2>

Le tournoi olympique de Milano Cortina réunit dix nations réparties selon une hiérarchie stricte, basée sur le classement mondial de l’IIHF. Ce système, bien que particulier, garantit une montée en puissance tout en offrant plus de chance de qualification aux équipes dites plus faibles.<\/p>

Le Groupe A<\/strong> regroupe les cinq puissances dominantes (Canada, États-Unis, Finlande, Tchéquie, Suisse). Ici, l’enjeu n’est pas l’élimination, toutes sont assurées de disputer les quarts de finale, mais le positionnement dans le tableau final pour s’éviter un choc prématuré.<\/p>

Le Groupe B<\/strong>, à l’inverse, est celui de tous les dangers. Il oppose le pays hôte, l’Italie, à quatre nations issues des qualifications: la Suède, l’Allemagne, le Japon et la France. Dans cette poule, seules les trois meilleures équipes décrocheront leur ticket pour la phase à élimination directe. Un faux pas lors de la phase de poules, qui s’achève le 10 février, et le rêve olympique pourrait prendre fin.<\/p>

Le Canada veut défendre son titre<\/h3>

Historiquement, le hockey féminin est un duel binaire. Depuis l’introduction de la discipline à Nagano en 1998, le Canada (5 titres) et les États-Unis (2 titres) se partagent l’or. Les Canadiennes arrivent en Italie avec leur statut de championnes olympiques en titre, portées par l’expérience de l’emblématique Marie-Philip Poulin.<\/p>

Cependant, les Américaines, sacrées championnes du monde en 2025, semblent avoir repris un léger ascendant psychologique. Le climat est d’autant plus électrique que les joueuses des deux nations évoluent désormais ensemble dans la PWHL, rendant le niveau de jeu global plus rapide et physique.<\/p>

Derrière ce « Big Two », la Tchéquie et la Finlande n’ont jamais semblé aussi proches de briser le plafond de verre. Avec des effectifs rodés et des gardiennes d’exception, elles espèrent bousculer la hiérarchie nord-américaine et s’inviter, pour la première fois, sur la plus haute marche du podium.<\/p>

Les adversaires de l’Equipe de France<\/h2>

Pour leur baptême du feu olympique, les Bleues se retrouvent dans le Groupe B. C’est un défi de taille mais pas forcément insurmontable pour cette génération qui ne demande qu’à briller.<\/p>

Leur parcours débutera le 5 février par un choc face à l’Italie. Jouer le pays hôte d’entrée est un test mental, mais une victoire est impérative pour viser les quarts. Elles enchaîneront dès le lendemain contre le Japon, une équipe réputée pour sa vitesse et sa discipline tactique. Les deux équipes se sont jouées en tournoi de préparation olympique à Dunkerque en décembre avec une victoire 3-2 en prolongations pour les nippones. Autant dire que l’écart de niveau entre les deux formations est plutôt restreint.<\/p>
