Des dérapages en NBA, il y en a toujours eu. Des mésententes entre coéquipiers ou membres d’une même franchise, aussi. Mais des tentatives d’assassinat à l’entrainement en revanche, c’est assez rare pour être notifié. <\/p>

Contexte. Nous sommes le 1er décembre 1997, au centre d’entrainement des Warriors de Golden State. Pas de Draymond Green ni de Jordan Poole à l’horizon, mais un climat délétère, du notamment à un démarrage catastrophique (1-13 après 14 matchs). Sevrés de Post Season depuis 3 saisons, la franchise alors triple championne NBA <\/a>à l’époque n’avait pas les armes pour lutter avec les poids lourds de l’Ouest. <\/p>

Retour à ce fameux entrainement, où PJ. Carlesimo, alors coach de l’équipe, a eu la mauvaise idée de rentrer un peu trop dans le lard d’un Latrell Sprewell<\/a> dont la réputation de joueur sanguin était déjà connue de tous. <\/p>

L’ailier, all star l’an passé, n’a visiblement pas apprécié les critiques à l’encontre de son playmaking. Il menace d’abord de tuer Carlesimo, avant de se ruer sur lui pour l’étrangler. Il aura fallu l’intervention de plusieurs joueurs pour séparer les deux hommes. <\/p>

Une sanction exemplaire pour Latrell Sprewell<\/h2>

Selon le Commissioner de l’époque, David Stern, l’arrière aurait quitté le practice pendant 20 minutes, avant de revenir à la charge. <\/p>

Tout d’abord, il l’a étranglé jusqu’à ce qu’on l’éloigne de force. Puis, après avoir quitté l’entraînement, M. Sprewell est revenu et s’est frayé un chemin à travers les autres afin de commettre une deuxième agression, cette fois clairement préméditée.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

Suite à cet incident, la NBA décide de prendre le taureau par les cornes et Latrell Sprewell est condamné à 68 matchs de suspension, soit jusqu’à la fin de saison. Son contrat avec les Warriors est rompu et l’arrière devra attendre janvier 1999 pour retrouver les parquets NBA (lockout oblige) avec… Les New-York Knicks. <\/p>

Quand à P.J Carlesimo, l’ancien coach universitaire restera en poste jusqu’en 2000. Par la suite, il remportera 3 bagues avec les Spurs en tant qu’assistant de Greg Popovich (2003, 2005, 2007), avant de devenir le premier coach du Thunder d’Oklahoma City, suite au rebranding des Supersonics.<\/p>

Il reviendra sur l’incident bien des années plus tard. Selon lui, il y aura eu plus de peur que de mal. <\/p>

ce fut plus de la surprise que du choc. Il y avait tellement de monde autour. Vous savez, c’était un entraînement, et il peut se passer des choses à l’entraînement mais jamais rien de tel. Donc j’étais plus surpris qu’autre chose.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>
