La semaine noire se poursuit de plus belle pour les Washington Commanders. La NFL a annoncé lundi la suspension pour un match du linebacker Frankie Luvu, sanctionné pour des violations répétées des règles de sécurité relatives aux plaquages dangereux. Cette suspension, sans solde, intervient après un nouvel incident survenu lors de la lourde défaite de Washington face aux Seattle Seahawks (38-14)<\/a>.<\/p>

Le « hip-drop tackle »: une pratique interdite<\/h2>

Au premier quart-temps de la rencontre, Luvu a de nouveau effectué un plaquage de type “hip-drop”, une technique désormais strictement interdite par la ligue en raison des risques élevés de blessure qu’elle engendre. Il s’agit du troisième de la saison pour le joueur, déjà sanctionné financièrement à deux reprises: 23 186 dollars d’amende en semaine 4 contre les Falcons, puis 46 372 dollars la semaine passée face aux Chiefs.<\/p>

Selon le règlement officiel<\/a> (Règle 12, Section 2, Article 18), un “hip-drop tackle” est caractérisé par le fait qu’un défenseur agrippe un porteur de balle avant de se laisser tomber en pivotant, piégeant ainsi la jambe de l’adversaire sous son poids. Cette technique, bien que souvent non intentionnelle, peut provoquer de graves blessures aux genoux ou aux chevilles.<\/p>

Un absent supplémentaire pour les Commanders<\/h2>

Frankie Luvu, auteur d’une saison solide jusque-là, manquera donc le match à domicile contre les Detroit Lions ce dimanche, sauf en cas d’appel réussi. L’audience serait alors examinée par un panel indépendant composé d’anciens joueurs comme Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster ou Jordy Nelson.<\/p>

Pour Washington, déjà affaibli par les blessures et la suspension de son quarterback Jayden Daniels, cette absence représente un nouveau coup dur sur le plan défensif. Quant à Luvu, il devient le dernier exemple d’une ligue déterminée à éradiquer les gestes dangereux, quitte à frapper fort sur le plan disciplinaire.<\/p>
