La tension monte à Cincinnati. Après une nouvelle défaite inquiétante face aux Detroit Lions (37-24) lors de la semaine 5 NFL<\/a> ce dimanche, les Cincinnti Bengals se retrouvent face à un dilemme majeur: faut-il tourner la page Jake Browning avant qu’il ne soit trop tard?<\/p>

Browning en difficulté, la patience s’effrite<\/h2>

Propulsé titulaire suite à la blessure à l’orteil de Joe Burrow, Jake Browning peine à convaincre. Face à Detroit, il a encore affiché un visage contrasté: 3 interceptions, suivies d’un réveil tardif en quatrième quart-temps avec 3 touchdowns. Trop peu, trop tard. Le public ne s’y est pas trompé: les huées ont fusé dès la première mi-temps, signe d’une confiance brisée. D’ailleurs, Jake Browning ne s’est pas défilé après la rencontre: <\/p>

« C’était du mauvais football, de ma part » a reconnu le quarterback lors de la conférence de presse d’après-match.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

Avec 8 interceptions en quatre matchs, le constat est sans appel. Et cette fois, même Zac Taylor semble douter. Interrogé sur un éventuel changement de quarterback la semaine dernière, l’entraîneur des Cincinnati Bengals avait botté en touche. Mais après cette troisième défaite consécutive, la porte semble plus que jamais ouverte:<\/p>

« Après un match comme celui-là, on doit évaluer tout le personnel » a confié Zac Taylor après le match<\/p>

Une déclaration lourde de sens. Si Taylor assurait encore il y a peu une confiance « inébranlable » envers Browning, son discours a nettement évolué. Le coach affirme toujours croire que son quarterback actuel peut gagner des matchs… mais n’exclut plus une alternative. Et des options, les Bengals en ont peu de satisfaisante actuellement: Brett Rypien dans l’effectif principal, Mike White et Sean Clifford dans le practice squad. Aucun n’est une vedette en puissance et les possibilités de trade pourraient s’amplifier dans les prochaines semaines.<\/p>

Une attaque qui ne démarre jamais<\/h2>

Le plus alarmant ? C’est la troisième semaine consécutive où Cincinnati n’inscrit que trois petits points sur les trois premiers quarts-temps, avant de se réveiller trop tard. Même les performances de Ja’Marr Chase (110 yards, 2 TDs) et Tee Higgins en fin de match n’ont pas suffi à masquer le problème structurel. D’ailleurs, Ja’Marr Chase l’a résumé ainsi: <\/p>

« Tout le monde sait ce qu’on fait. Il faut travailler plus dur pour faciliter la vie de Jake. » <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

La question est désormais simple: Zac Taylor va-t-il oser changer de quarterback avant la semaine prochaine? Le coach assume sa part de responsabilité, mais la NFL est un business de résultats. Si les Bengals veulent encore avoir une petite chance d’accrocher les playoffs, ils devront agir vite.<\/p>
