À l’approche des séries éliminatoires, les Los Angeles Dodgers explorent toutes les options pour maximiser l’impact de Shohei Ohtani. <\/p>

Utilisé avec précaution tout au long de la saison après sa deuxième opération du ligament collatéral ulnaire, le Japonais a retrouvé son rôle de lanceur partant. Mais Dave Roberts et son staff n’excluent pas une surprise : voir Shohei Ohtani endosser un rôle de releveur, notamment dans le cadre d’une série courte comme le tour des wild-cards.<\/p>

Entre prudence et audace<\/h2>

Officiellement, le plan reste de confier la balle à Shohei Ohtani comme lanceur partant. Mais Roberts l’a reconnu : l’idée de l’utiliser en sortie de relève est bel et bien discutée. Le manager insiste toutefois sur les risques d’un tel scénario : <\/p>

« Shohei est un joueur de routine, extrêmement méthodique. Le bullpen, c’est tout l’inverse. On doit mesurer ce qu’on peut se permettre après avoir pris tant de précautions cette année », a-t-il expliqué.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

Cette prudence s’est encore illustrée cette semaine lorsque Roberts a sorti Ohtani après seulement cinq manches sans coup sûr et 68 lancers. Une décision prévue à l’avance, reflet de la gestion minutieuse du phénomène nippon.<\/p>

Une arme supplémentaire pour un bullpen en difficulté<\/h2>

Si la rotation des Dodgers affiche de la profondeur avec Yamamoto, Snell, Glasnow, Kershaw et Sheehan, le bullpen, lui, suscite davantage d’inquiétudes. Treinen, Scott, Yates et Kopech n’ont pas toujours répondu présents dans les moments clés. D’où l’intérêt de réfléchir à Shohei Ohtani comme solution de luxe en fin de match.<\/p>

Un rôle qui rappellerait ses exploits avec le Japon lors du World Baseball Classic 2023, lorsqu’il avait clos la finale face aux États-Unis pour offrir le titre à sa sélection. Reste à savoir si Los Angeles prendra le risque de rééditer ce scénario en octobre.<\/p>
