Le defensive tackle Cameron Heyward n’écarte pas la possibilité de manquer des matchs des Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a> lors de la saison régulière NFL 2025 s’il ne reçoit pas un nouveau contrat de la franchise. Lors d’un échange avec des journalistes ce lundi, le joueur a réaffirmé qu’il ne comptait pas entrer sur le terrain sans augmentation salariale.<\/p>

« Je pense qu’il y a clairement des options qui pourraient mener à ça », a déclaré Heyward, selon Michael DeFabo, de The Athletic<\/em><\/a>.
« Mon objectif est d’être là, et je ne sais pas ce qui va se passer. J’ai dû être honnête avec moi-même pour me préparer à toutes les options. Est-ce que les choses se sont passées comme je le voulais ? Non. Si ça avait été le cas, je serais en train de jouer et de m’entraîner. Mais j’aimerais mettre tout ça derrière moi et me concentrer sur le football et sur les [New York] Jets pour la Semaine 1. »<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

Un accord est un accord<\/h2>

En 2024, Heyward a signé avec les Steelers une extension de deux ans pour 29 millions de dollars, en acceptant une réduction de salaire. En échange, le joueur avait prévenu la direction qu’il reprendrait les négociations pour un contrat mieux rémunéré s’il était sélectionné All-Pro.<\/p>

Il a tenu sa part du marché, ayant été choisi dans l’équipe-type de la saison après avoir enregistré 71 plaquages, 12 plaquages pour perte de yards et 8 sacks. Pourtant, les négociations pour un nouveau contrat avec Pittsburgh n’ont pas avancé pendant l’intersaison.<\/p>

Ainsi, à 36 ans, il fait pression depuis février pour obtenir un nouvel accord, surtout qu’il n’a aucun salaire garanti au-delà de 2025. Bien qu’il se soit présenté au training camp, il ne participe pas aux entraînements préparatoires.<\/p>

« Je veux être valorisé […] Je sais ce que j’apporte à cette équipe et de quoi je suis capable, sur et en dehors du terrain. Après l’année que j’ai faite, il m’est difficile de justifier de jouer pour le salaire que je touche », a regretté le défenseur.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

Le marché des défenseur flambe en NFL<\/h2>

En attendant, Cameron Heyward continue de discuter avec le general manager Omar Khan, le président et propriétaire Art Rooney et l’entraîneur principal Mike Tomlin. Après l’entraînement de ce lundi, Tomlin a minimisé les inquiétudes sur l’avenir du joueur, soulignant la bonne relation avec lui et son optimisme quant à une issue positive.<\/p>

Le retard dans la signature pourrait coûter cher à la franchise. Actuellement, Heyward devrait toucher environ 14,75 millions de dollars en 2025, ce qui le place seulement 22e defensive tackle le mieux payé de la NFL, selon Over the Cap<\/em>.<\/p>

Ce montant reste bien inférieur à celui des leaders du marché, comme Chris Jones (Kansas City Chiefs), qui gagne 31,75 millions de dollars par an avec 95 millions garantis, ou Zach Allen (Denver Broncos), qui a signé pour 102 millions sur 4 ans, dont 69,5 millions garantis.<\/p>
