Avant même d’entrer en NFL, le rookie Travis Hunter avait déjà exprimé son souhait de jouer à la fois comme wide receiver et cornerback pour les Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a>. L’entraîneur principal, Liam Coen, semble avoir adhéré à cette idée et, surtout, espère voir son joueur être récompensé des deux côtés du ballon. Invité dans le podcast The Rich Eisen Show<\/a><\/em> ce lundi, le coach a déclaré croire qu’Hunter pourrait remporter les trophées de rookie offensif et rookie défensif de l’année lors de la saison 2025.<\/p>

« Je pense que c’est possible », a déclaré Coen. « Il ne bénéficie d’aucun traitement de faveur simplement parce qu’il a été choisi en deuxième position de la draft et qu’il s’appelle Travis Hunter. Ses coéquipiers sont constamment sur lui, essayant de le bloquer, de lui mettre la pression, de lui rendre les choses aussi difficiles que possible. C’est ce que je ressens, et je ne m’attendais à rien d’autre venant de ces gars. Eux aussi pensent qu’il peut réussir, mais ils vont faire en sorte qu’il le mérite ici », a ajouté le coach.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

Une versatilité qui date de l’université<\/h2>

Travis Hunter, 21 ans, a été sélectionné en 2e position de la Draft par les Jaguars après avoir impressionné dans le football universitaire grâce à sa capacité unique à évoluer à haut niveau à la fois en attaque et en défense, comme receveur et cornerback.<\/p>

En 2024, il a brillé avec 96 réceptions, 1 258 yards et 15 touchdowns en attaque, ainsi que 35 plaquages, 11 passes déviées et 4 interceptions en défense. Ces statistiques exceptionnelles lui ont valu de remporter le Heisman Trophy, remis au meilleur joueur universitaire de la saison.<\/p>

Même s’il excelle des deux côtés du terrain, Hunter ne pourra prétendre aux deux prix pour les rookies que s’il joue un nombre significatif de snaps aux deux postes tout au long de l’année. Selon Coen, c’est bien ce que prévoit la franchise.<\/p>

Toujours ce lundi, les Jaguars ont annoncé leur effectif pour la présaison. Travis Hunter y est listé comme wide receiver principal et deuxième option au poste de cornerback. Un pas de plus vers ce joueur qui constituera probablement une double menace pour les adversaires des Jacksonville Jaguars.<\/p>
