Absent des terrains depuis une blessure au genou subie lors de la quatrième semaine de la saison 2024, Rashee Rice a pris la parole ce samedi pour la première fois depuis son retour au camp d’entraînement des Kansas City Chiefs<\/a>. L’occasion pour le receveur de 25 ans de revenir, avec lucidité, sur l’un des épisodes les plus sombres de sa jeune carrière : un accident de voiture spectaculaire survenu en mars 2024, sur une autoroute de Dallas, et qui a fait plusieurs blessés.<\/p>

\n

« J’ai complètement changé », a affirmé Rice face aux médias<\/a>. « Il faut savoir tirer des leçons de ce genre de situation. J’ai appris, et j’ai profité de cette épreuve pour grandir. »<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

Ce soir-là, selon le parquet, Rice roulait à près de 190 km\/h sur la North Central Expressway, multipliant les manœuvres dangereuses avant de provoquer un carambolage. La scène, filmée et largement relayée, avait suscité une vague d’indignation, d’autant plus que l’athlète avait quitté les lieux sans porter assistance.<\/p>

En juillet dernier, Rice a plaidé coupable à deux chefs d’accusation de troisième degré pour collision ayant causé des blessures graves et pour participation à une course de rue. Il a été condamné à cinq ans de probation différée, 30 jours de prison, qu’il devra purger à un moment encore indéterminé, et a accepté de verser plus d’un million de dollars aux victimes, dont 115 000 $ pour leurs frais médicaux.<\/p>

Au-delà de la sanction judiciaire, Rice insiste sur l’impact personnel de cet événement: <\/p>

« Ce genre d’erreur vous marque. Je ne suis plus le même. Je suis déterminé à me concentrer sur ma rééducation, mon équipe et à prouver que je suis un homme meilleur. »<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>

A cette heure, une suspension supplémentaire de la part de la NFL est toujours à l’étude et pourrait priver Rashee Rice d’une partie de la saison. Mais chez les Kansas City Chiefs, on espère qu’au-delà du terrain, c’est aussi dans sa vie d’homme que le jeune receveur poursuivra sa transformation.<\/p>
