Après 13 saisons en MLB, le lanceur Kyle Gibson a annoncé sa retraite ce jeudi 17 juillet, à l’âge de 37 ans.<\/p>

Le manque de bonnes offres, combiné à des vacances en famille, a poussé Gibson à mettre un terme à sa carrière.<\/p>

L’ancien lanceur avait commencé la saison avec les Baltimore Orioles après avoir signé un contrat de 5,25 millions de dollars, mais il avait été libéré en mai avec une moyenne de points mérités (ERA) de 16,78 après seulement quatre matchs.<\/p>

Gibson avait ensuite rejoint les Tampa Bay Rays. Il avait montré de meilleures performances en ligues mineures affiliées à la franchise floridienne, mais avait demandé à être libéré de son contrat en juin, ne parvenant pas à intégrer la rotation des titulaires des Rays.<\/p>

Issu de l’Université du Missouri, Gibson avait été sélectionné en 22e position du draft par les Minnesota Twins en 2009. Il a fait ses débuts en MLB en 2013.<\/p>

Il a joué sept saisons avec les Twins, avant de porter les couleurs des Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles et St. Louis Cardinals.<\/p>

Le sommet de sa carrière a été atteint en 2021, lorsqu’il a été sélectionné pour le All-Star Game alors qu’il évoluait chez les Rangers. La même année, il a été impliqué dans un échange vers les Phillies, avec qui il a contribué à la conquête du titre de la Ligue Nationale la saison suivante.<\/p>

Gibson termine sa carrière avec 112 victoires et 111 défaites, une moyenne de points mérités de 4,60 et un total de 1 520 retraits sur des prises en 1 878 manches lancées en MLB<\/a>.<\/p>
