Le left tackle Rashawn Slater s’est présenté au training camp des Los Angeles Chargers mercredi, bien qu’il n’ait pas encore signé d’extension de contrat en NFL. Le joueur et la franchise poursuivent leurs négociations pour un nouvel accord mais, selon le general manager Joe Hortiz, les discussions progressent de manière positive.<\/p>

« Nous avons de bonnes discussions », a déclaré Hortiz, selon le journaliste Eric Smith. « J’ai parlé hier avec Pat [Collins], son agent, et je l’ai eu lui au téléphone aujourd’hui. Nous travaillons dessus. »<\/p>

« Comme pour toute négociation de haut niveau — j’en ai vu beaucoup à Baltimore et j’y ai pris part — cela demande du temps. Toutes les conversations ont été très bonnes. Les deux parties avancent et se sentent à l’aise avec le progrès réalisé. Nous sommes confiants quant à la suite. »<\/p>

La situation contractuelle de Slater<\/strong><\/h2>

Slater entame la prochaine saison dans la dernière année de son contrat rookie. Le lineman offensif doit toucher 19,04 millions de dollars grâce à l’option de cinquième année.<\/p>

Durant l’offseason, le joueur avait manqué une partie des activités organisées par l’équipe (OTAs), mais il avait participé au minicamp obligatoire en juin, déclarant à l’époque qu’il « n’était pas inquiet » pour sa situation contractuelle.<\/p>

Ainsi, le training camp des Chargers démarre ce jeudi (17). Bien qu’il soit présent dans les installations, il reste à savoir si Slater s’entraînera normalement ou s’il continuera à mettre la pression sur la direction en envisageant un éventuel holdout.<\/p>

« Je ne peux pas parler pour lui, mais nous espérons qu’il participera aux entraînements », a ajouté Hortiz.<\/p>

Une prévision salariale élevée qui exige de la prudence<\/strong><\/h2>

Sélectionné en 13ᵉ position du Draft 2021 par les Chargers, Slater est pressenti pour recevoir un contrat conséquent. Selon Gary Davenport de Bleacher Report<\/em><\/a>, la franchise pourrait lui proposer un accord de quatre ans pour un montant total de 120,5 millions de dollars<\/strong> afin de conserver son left tackle.<\/p>

Le numéro 70 s’est imposé comme l’un des meilleurs à son poste après deux sélections au Pro Bowl en quatre ans de carrière, dont la saison 2024. À 26 ans, il est l’un des piliers de la ligne offensive chargée de protéger le quarterback Justin Herbert<\/strong>.<\/p>
